Kirtan

Sing for Joy! Music to Raise Your Vibration

Join Darren for kirtan the 1st Saturday of every month at Yoga Soup in Santa Barbara. Kirtan is call-and-response singing of devotional music. It is an integral part of Bhakti yoga, the yoga of love and devotion. Kirtan invokes the transformational power of sound vibration to still the mind and awaken the heart center. It is uplifting and healing. It unites people of all faiths and backgrounds into a unified field of oneness through which we experience the love and joy inherent to our inner-most beings.

Darren discovered kirtan in his early 30s while living in Santa Monica. The ancient mantras touched his heart and spirit in a profound way and he immediately began incorporating mantras into his original singer/songwriter music. Before long, he began diving deep into the path of Bhakti Yoga and devotion became an integral part of his spiritual path. He has been riding the Bhakti wave ever since. Leading kirtan, and uplifting hearts through the practice is now his greatest joy in life.

As a devotional Kirtan artist and singer/songwriter, Darren has had a rich and eclectic musical career with more than 30 original songs featured in film and television. Harboring a deep commitment to the awakening of our true-selves through the power of sound, he is devoted to sharing his unique blend of pop/folk inspired melodies and sacred chants with as many people as possible around the world. He shares his music at yoga studios, yoga festivals, music festivals, and other conscious event venues.

About the Singing

Absolutely no prior singing experience is required to participate in these gatherings. If you prefer not to share your voice, that is perfectly fine. Simply by listening and receiving, your heart will be opened and your vibration will be raised. If you do choose to share your voice, your mind might initially think that you are making sound as an individual. But in reality, we are coming together as a group collective and creating a unified field of love where all voices become one.

“I usually talk too much, but here I am, at a loss for words! I knew today was going to be very special, and lead me to where I needed to be. And although it was obvious from peoples’ comments that everyone else understood kirtan, none of that mattered. What mattered was that we were all together and there was so much love and healing generated. I didn’t know the words, the languages, you name it, I didn’t know it, but my center did, so I just went with it and sang and allowed myself to ‘be.’”
